Project Description: Through the DHS ARPA-Social Isolation and Loneliness Grant, we established the Barron County Men’s Shed. The Barron County Men’s Shed exists to create a supportive community where older men can connect, fostering health, well-being, and a sense of purpose. The Shed meets monthly, from 10:00-12:00 p.m. and includes a delicious lunch coordinated with the senior nutrition program.
Major Project Activities: The Men’s Shed movement originated in Australia and has demonstrated the life-changing impact of creating community, establishing connections and joining people together. The Aging & Disability Resource Center of Barron County held it’s
first monthly gathering in October 2024. Monthly event topics and activities
are suggested by attendees, which allows for each individual to have a voice in what is brought to The Shed.
So far the Barron County Men’s Shed has experienced a Blacksmith demonstration, learned from local trappers, did some wood burning, and learned about scams from the local Sheriff.
